TomTom nav app coming soon to Android smartphones

Out of all the paid GPS apps available on the iPhone and iPad, TomTom’s is our favourite. And it will soon be available on Android smartphones through the Google Play store.

TomTom made the announcement at the IFA consumer electronics show that’s currently taking place in Berlin. The Android version of the app will be released in October 2012.

Like the existing iOS version, TomTom for Android will include lifetime map updates, advanced lane guidance, text-to-speech for spoken street names, and 2D and 3D map views. Users can also gain access to TomTom’s proprietary traffic information service, as well as warnings for speed, red light and safety camera locations, but both of these services are additional cost purchases.
