No turn-by-turn nav for Apple iPhone 5 and iOS 6 in Australia

It looks as though the free turn-by-turn navigation feature on the new iOS Maps app will not be available in Australia, at least for now.

A quick comparison of the page spruiking the new Maps app on both Apple Australia and Apple US sites reveals one missing feature for us Antipodeans: turn-by-turn navigation.

An Apple spokesperson confirmed to Between the Axles that Australian iOS 6 and iPhone 5 users that “turn-by-turn navigation will not be available in Australia on day of launch”. Features available in Australia at launch include “Satellite, Directions, Traffic, Local Search and Flyover”.

The new Maps application now uses Apple’s own in-house mapping data and technology, rather than that supplied by Google Maps.

Update (Fri 14 Sep): You can see all the features by region via this handy page on Apple’s website.
