Mark VII Volkswagen Golf spawns a wagon variant

To be known as the Golf Variant in Europe, the new Mark VII Golf wagon will eventually find its way down under.

Based, as you would expect, on the larger, but lighter, seventh generation Golf 5-door hatchback, the new wagon is longer; some 30cm longer overall.

This added length behind the rear seats equates to more boot space, naturally. With the rear seats up, the Golf wagon has 605 litres of cargo carrying capacity (up 100L on the hatch). Fold the rear seats down and the Golf wagon can swallow 1,620L worth of amorphous stuff (up from the 1,495L of the Mark V and Mark VI wagons).

In Europe the Golf wagon will be offered in front- and all-wheel drive.

Length: 4,562mm (+307mm over the Mark VII Golf 5-door hatch)
Width: 1,799mm
Height: 1,452mm?
Wheelbase: 2,637mm
