Electric Tesla Model S wins Motor Trend’s 2012 Car of the Year award

Tesla’s all-electric Model S sedan has won this year’s Motor Trend Car of the Year award, beating out competitors such as the new BMW 3-Series, Cadillac ATS, Ford Fusion/Mondeo, Porsche 911 and Toyota 86.

In the magazine’s words the Model S is “a truly remarkable automobile” because it “drives like a sports car, eager and agile and instantly responsive, but it’s also as smoothly effortless as a Rolls-Royce, can carry almost as much stuff as a Chevy Equinox [or Holden Captiva], and is more efficient than a Toyota Prius.”
