Electric Fiat 500e set to debut in Los Angeles

Fiat will debut an electric version of its tiny 500 at the upcoming 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show.

According to Fiat the car will be sold in California from 2013, with other states and countries to follow in 2014. Reports indicate that the car will retail for around US$45,000 — by way of comparison an entry-level petrol-powered 500 has a list price of US$16,000 and the Porsche Boxster starts from US$49,500 in the US.

Despite that, in statements to the press, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne has stated that the company anticipates losing around $US10,000 per electric car sold.

Aside from that, little concrete info is known about the car at the moment. We’ll keep you updated when news trickles in from the LA Auto Show.
