Datsun Redi-Go Concept: tall boy hatch ready for India, developing world

Datsun has revealed the Redi-Go concept car at the New Delhi Auto Show in India. Although it has the styling and raised ride height of an off-road SUV, the Redi-Go is really an inexpensive tall boy hatch with plenty of ground clearance.

The company’s not giving too much detail about the car except to say that the Redi-Go rides on 15-inch alloy wheels and a 2,350mm wheelbase (that’s 100mm shorter than the Go and Go+ for those keeping score). This means that the Redi-Go should easily measure under 4m in length.

Given the need to wring maximum efficiency out of the Go platform, it’s likely that any production version of the Redi-Go will use the same 1.2-litre engine and 5-speed manual transmission as its siblings. Given the front-wheel drive-only nature of the Ford EcoSport, Chevrolet Adra and others of their ilk, a production Redi-Go will probably be a front-wheel drive only affair.
