Cadillac ATS Coupe: American for BMW 4-Series

For many it’s known as the purveyor of chintzy, chrome-laden American land yachts that populated TV shows from the 1970s and ’80s, Cadillac has been fighting back in the last decade with a range of cars that increasingly take the best ideas from Germany and meld them with cutting edge American style.

The Cadillac ATS sedan is sized and priced against the BMW 3-Series, Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, as well as the Lexus IS and Infiniti Q50. So, it stands to reason that there should be an ATS coupe to take on the 4-Series, A5, C-Class, RC, et al. And here it is. Warning: it’s not quite as dramatic as the outgoing Cadillac CTS coupe.

Like the ATS sedan, the ATS coupe is available in both rear- and all-wheel drive, and buyers are able to choose between a 203kW/400Nm 2-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and a 239kW/373Nm 3.6-litre V6. In addition to the 6-speed auto that’s standard on most variations, buyers of the 2-litre turbo can opt for a 6-speed manual.

Tech available on the ATS coupe includes 4G LTE in-car connectivity and Wi-Fi hot spot, automatic braking for both front- and rear-end collisions, lane keeping assistance, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, reversing camera with rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control that works in stop/start traffic, and colour head-up display.
