C7 Chevrolet Corvette Z06: 466kW/861Nm engine, 7-sp man or 8-sp auto

In addition to revealing the look of the Corvette Z06, Chevrolet has confirmed the technical specifications of the new range-topping Corvette.

The new and, for now, range-topping Corvette Z06 harbours a 6.2-litre supercharged V8, codenamed LT4, under the hood. It pumps out 466kW (625hp) of power and 861Nm (635lb-ft) of torque to the rear wheels via either the standard 7-speed manual or optional 8-speed automatic. The latter features automatic rev matching on downshifts and is said to be 0.8 seconds quicker to upshift than the comparable dual-clutch PDK transmission offered in the 991 Porsche 911. The new 8-speed transmission also happens to weigh 4kg (8lb) less than the 6-speed auto that’s optional in the regular Corvette Stingray.

Riding on 19-inch wheels up front and 20-inch rims at the rear, the Corvette Z06 features engorged front and rear fenders. Available features include a soft-touch interior, launch control mode, electronic limited slip diff (LSD), and sports bucket seats.

Confusingly, buyers of the Corvette Z06 can opt for the Z07 performance package, which adds larger Brembo carbon ceramic brakes, an aero package that provides even more downforce, and even stickier Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup tyres. These changes add up to allow the C7 Corvette Z06 to outlap the ultimate C6 Corvette, the ZR1.
