Alfa Romeo 4C is tiny, mid-engined, chasing Lotus Elise

Alfa Romeo has released the first details and photos of the production version of its 4C mid-engine sports car, which thankfully looks like different to the show car that wowed us a few years ago.

Alfa has yet to unveil the production car’s interior and hard details are a little thin on the ground. What we do know is that it seats just two people, is incredibly petite at under 4m in length, has a chassis made of carbon fibre and so should be incredibly light — although maybe not as incredibly light as the Lotus Elise.

Power is sent to the rear-wheels via a twin-clutch transmission; no mention of a manual transmission at this stage. The engine sitting behind the driver and passenger is a 1.75-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder unit with direct injection.

The 4C will go on sale in Europe in the middle 2013 and will be produced in Maserati’s Modena plant.
