6th gen Ford Mustang coming to Oz 2015: 2.3L 4-cyl, 5L V8 only

For the first time in many, many generations the new Ford Mustang is going on sale around the world in an official capacity.

The new sixth generation Mustang’s appearance shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who’s been following the auto scene, as its shape has been leaked numerous times — most recently by the latest edition of Autoweek.

Under the skin the new Mustang features an independent rear suspension system — welcome to the 1980s pony lovers! — as well as the first 4-cylinder engine in three generations. It its homeland, the new Ford Mustang will feature an entry-level 220kw/366Nm 3.7-litre V6 engine, while further up the chain there’s a 227kW/407Nm 2.3-litre turbocharged (sorry, EcoBoost) 4-cylinder and a 313kW/529Nm 5-litre V8.

Overseas markets, like Australia, will only receive the 4-cylinder and V8 engines, at least to begin with.

Features that will be available on the new Mustang include heated and cooled front seats, proximity entry key, push button start, sat nav, voice recognition, cruise control, automatic headlights, electric front seats and up to three memory settings, LED tail-lights, LED driving lights, and 19-inch alloy wheels.

The new Mustang goes on sale in the US from April 2014, but Australians will have to wait until late 2015 to see the first Mustangs hit showrooms.
