Toyota began production of its all-new Kluger SUV at its production facility in the US state of Indiana at the beginning of December.
Given that it takes around a month for cargo to travel via sea from the US to Australia, this seems to indicate that the new Kluger will arrive in showrooms during the first quarter of 2014, probably from around February.
The previous two generations of the Kluger sold in Australia were built in Japan. But with Japanese buyers preferring larger people movers to large SUVs, production of the Kluger has been consolidated at Toyota US’ plant in Princeton, Indiana. That factory will produce the large, more aggressively-styled Kluger as the Highlander for the US, Canadian, Mexican and Russian markets.
Australia-bound Klugers will be offered with a maximum of seven seats (overseas versions can be had with up to eight seats) and a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine (the 2.7-litre 4-cylinder and hybrid versions aren’t on the cards for Aussie customers).
