2014 Subaru WRX teased: clearly Impreza based; has big bonnet scoop

Ahead of the new Subaru WRX’s debut at the LA Auto Show, the company has issued a teaser image of the new car’s front end.

As we noted when Subaru showed off the svelte and uniquely bodied WRX Concept at this year’s New York Auto Show, the new WRX will indeed be a highly worked over Impreza model instead of being a distinct model as Subaru had earlier claimed.

The teaser image shows an sculpted bonnet with a large scoop for the benefit of the turbocharged engine, what seems to be slightly wider front guards, a more aggressive front bumper with a bolder grille, and xenon headlights with LED driving lights. The regular Impreza’s flag pole mirrors can be seen lurking in the background, hinting at the car’s heritage.

No word yet on how much power or which engine the WRX will pack, nor the car’s price.
