2014 Renault Trafic: third generation van headlined by sub-6L/100km diesel

Renault has unveiled its third generation Trafic van, which will go on sale on the Continent in the northern summer.

According to Renault, the new Trafic will be available in two different lengths and two roof heights. In time it will be offered in regular delivery van, crew cab, platform cab and minibus configurations.

Smaller turbocharged engines will drive the new Renault Trafic, headlined by the company’s R9M 1.6-litre turbo-diesel. The R9M will be offered in both turbo and twin-turbo forms, the latter is expected to have around 118kW and 380Nm at its disposal, and achieve a fuel economy rating of under 6L/100km in EU testing.

Other concrete details about the new Trafic van will be revealed closer to the car’s launch date.

As with the previous generation, the new Trafic will also be sold as an Opel/Vauxhall under the Vivaro name and come complete with a different grille and bumpers. It’s also likely that the new Trafic will spawn a Nissan Primastar version too in Europe.
