2014 Nissan Murano teased before debut in New York

Nissan has released teaser images of its new third generation Murano SUV ahead of its official reveal at the New York Auto Show in April.

The new Murano is not expected to deviate too far from its heritage: a family-friendly SUV with a modicum more style than its immediate competitors.

Nissan isn’t saying anything, at this stage anyway, about what new features the third-gen Murano may sport, except that it will have “spacious, premium interior and advanced, purposeful safety and connective technology”. Translation: it’ll (probably) be larger, have a faux leather covered dashboard, and be compatible with select smartphone apps via the NissanConnect system. It’s safe to assume that the fugly as sin Murano convertible won’t be gracing the third generation lineup.

From the teasers we can see that Nissan has junked the controversial headlight and grille treatment from the current Murano in favour of a U-shaped grille, similar to the ones on the Pathfinder and X-Trail, and hockey stick headlights, like those on the 370Z. The side window features the usual Murano up-turned kink past the rear doors, while the Juke-style tail-lights will feature LED light tubes and LED bulbs.
