The Hazumi is said to be a concept car-style preview of the new 2. So expect it to feature more extravagant surfaces, flush door handles, expensive wing mirrors, seriously over-sized alloy wheels, and an interior to make a Rolls-Royce blush.

But, as with all these concept car previews, it will contain the basic shape and form of the upcoming Mazda 2. From the rendered sketch above, the new Mazda 2 will feature a similar headlight and grille arrangement, as well as side surfacing, to the just launched Mazda 3.

According to Mazda, hazumi is Japanese for “to bound or spring up” and the new Mazda 2 was designed to be like an untamed animal leaping and bursting with energy.

When the new Mazda 2 goes on sale later this year, it will replace the DE Mazda 2 (below) that’s been kicking around since 2007.
