2014 Honda Odyssey: available in 7- or 8-seat guise, on sale February

Honda has confirmed that its all new fifth generation Odyssey MPV will go on sale in Australia from February 2014.

When it does hit showrooms it will be available in both 7- and 8-seat guises; it seems as though the 6-seat version sold in Japan, with reclining captain’s seats in the middle row, is off the cards for Australia for now. All models will feature dual sliding rear doors (a first for Japan-built Odysseys), while top spec models will feature a power operation for the rear doors, wide-angle reversing camera and daytime driving lights.

In Australia, the new Odyssey will be powered by Honda’s new Earth Dreams (yes, we’re serious) 2.4-litre petrol engine. It’s said to drink just 7.6L/100km and emit 178g/km of CO2 in official testing. Overseas this engine produces 140kW of power and 251Nm of torque.

Other tech that’s available in Japan in the new Odyssey includes blind-spot monitoring, forward collision detection, multi-zone climate control, cruise control, xenon headlights, proximity entry, and push button start. Unfortunately the Odyssey is also saddled with a foot operated parking brake as standard.
