2014 Ford Falcon XR8 confirmed; FPV to close in late 2014

Ford has confirmed that when the Falcon range is facelifted and updated for the final time, late in 2014, the XR8 will return to the range.

The flipside of this good piece of news is that the late 2014 Falcon update will spell the demise of Ford’s go fast division Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV).

According to Ford, the 2014 Falcon XR8 will use a version of the Australian designed 5-litre supercharged V8, dubbed Miami, that’s found under the bonnet of the FPV GS, GT and GT-P. In the FPV GS the engine makes 315kW of power and 545Nm of torque for the rear wheels, while in the GT and GT-P the same engine produces 335kW and 570Nm.

The XR8 was last on sale during 2010. Back then it featured 5.4-litre V8 and an entry price of just over A$50,000. If the 2014 Ford Falcon XR8 is going to match that price point it might feature a similar level of equipment to the A$57,870 FPV GS sedan, which includes 19-inch alloy wheels, 6-speed manual (a 6-speed auto is optional), uprated brakes (322mm at the front, 303mm at the rear), cloth-covered sports bucket seats and an entertainment system with 8-inch touchscreen.
