2014 8V Audi A3 sedan available from January, prices start at $39,800

Audi will launch its first ever A3 sedan in Australia in January 2014. The neat looking sedan is only a six centimetres shy of the original A4’s length.

Three engines will be available at launch, including two petrol motors: a 103kW/250Nm 1.4-litre turbo and a 132kW/250Nm 1.8-litre turbo. These will be joined by a solitary diesel engine, a 2-litre mill pumping out 110kW/320Nm. All models are equipped with a dual-clutch transmission (sorry, S-Tronic) as standard. To begin with the A3 sedan will be offered in specification levels: Attraction and Ambition.

Kicking off the range is the A$39,800 Attraction, which is powered exclusively by the 1.4-litre motor. No word on yet on that model’s specifications, except that the engine will feature automatic cylinder deactivation to help improve fuel economy.

The Ambition starts at A$44,800 for either the 1.8-litre petrol or 2-litre turbo-diesel. Quattro all-wheel drive is a $3,000 option on the petrol version. Again exact specifications will be released in January closer to launch.
