2013 Lexus IS pulled over by LAPD while camouflaged under development

Lexus is in full tease mode for its new IS sedan ahead of its official debut at the Detroit Motor Show in the middle of January 2013. The latest involves Toyota’s Gazoo Racing arm, in a blog post, revealing photos of the car, camouflaged while under development, being pulled over by the LAPD.

Other photos in the post (seen in the gallery above) show beauty shots of the car taken during its late development phase, as well as its interior with significant parts taped up.

The new IS reportedly shares a fair amount of components with its larger GS sibling. As before power is sent to the rear wheels, but there will be extra choices in the engine lineup. In addition to 2.5-litre and 3.5-litre V6s, there will be a BMW-sourced 4-cylinder diesel engine and, for the first time in the IS, a hybrid option. Like the recently unveiled Japan market-only Toyota Crown, the hybrid IS will use a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine teamed up with an electric motor and battery pack.
