2013 Kia Cerato Koup is a Veloster in coupe clothing

The new Kia Cerato Koup not only features a new body and a massively improved interior, but also the option of 1.6-litre turbo engine first seen in the Hyundai Veloster.

Kia’s Cerato Koup range kicks off with the A$23,990 Si GDi, which features a 129kW/209Nm 2-litre direct injection petrol engine under the hood. This drives the front wheels via either the 6-speed manual transmission or optional (A$2,200) 6-speed auto. Standard kit includes 17-inch alloy wheels; full-size spare alloy wheel; front and rear parking sensors; automatic headlights; front and rear fog lights; 6-way manual driver’s seat adjustment; heated wing mirrors with indicators; cruise control; faux leather on the steering wheel, gear knob, door trims and dashboard; and electric windows.

The audio system features six speakers, a 4.3-inch touchscreen interface, steering wheel controls, Bluetooth for music and hands-free, auxiliary jack, USB port, CD, AM/FM radio and internal storage for MP3 files.

Next up is the more powerful A$227,990 T-GDi Turbo that places Hyundai/Kia’s 150kW/265Nm 1.6-litre turbocharged direct injection petrol mill under the bonnet. Again a 6-speed manual is standard, with the optional 6-speed auto adding A$2,200 to the price. Extra gear includes a body kit, 18-inch alloy wheels, full-size alloy spare, larger 300mm ventilated disc brakes, LED tail-lights, LED daytime running lights, proximity entry key, push button start, alloy pedals, and a chilled glovebox.

At the top of the pile is the A$30,990 Touring Pack version of the T-GDi Turbo. There’s no extra power with this model, but you do get leather seats, dual-zone climate control and air cleaning module. The entertainment system is upgraded with a larger 7-inch high-res touchscreen, satellite navigation, and DVD player. You do, however, lose the ability to store MP3 files in the system’s internal memory.
